The World’s Thinnest Notebook

The New MacBook Air Has Arrived

The new MacBook Air has a 13.3-inch widescreen LED display, full-size keyboard, and large multi-touch track pad all packed into a sleek frame that weighs only 3.0 pounds. The new MacBook also has a 1280-by-800 resolution screen which gives you vibrant images and rich colors, along with 2 gigs of ram standard, but two things concern me.

The hard drive options are extremely limited because of the laptop’s compact size and there is no optical drive, which I could see causing a lot of problems, but with the laptops wireless capabilities and the more common use of flash drives for storing files this may or may not be a big issue, but I’ll let you decide.

So How do I Install Software?

However, for those times when you still need to install software on MacBook Air from a CD or DVD, a new feature called Remote Disc lets you wirelessly use or “borrow” the optical drive of a Mac or PC in the vicinity. So you can have full access to an optical drive without having to haul one around.

Despite the small hard drive, no optical drive, and high price tag, I think the new MacBook Air is a good step towards ultra portable, yet powerful laptops. In terms of graphic design though I think the MacBook and MacBook Pro are still the designer’s best friend in the Apple laptop group.

That is a really thin notebook. I really like the way it looks, but just like anything mac it is just out of my price range. With it starting at $1800.00 I could buy 2 windows based notebooks for that price.

yeah I think most people were expecting Apple to come up with a cheaper version of the MacBook with maybe a 10 inch screen, but I guess instead they wanted to push for the super thin laptop.

Maybe in the future they will produce some more affordable computers which would help them compete with Dell and others who own the low end computers market right now.

Apple might like the branding it gets from the high prices though because high prices tend to be synonymous with quality products.

For example, Alienware is known for being good or at least thought to be good because they are so expensive, so maybe studies have shown Apple that lowering prices or offering cheap computers would actually be bad for their branding?
