Communication Arts is an amazing art and design magazine that consists of eight issues and includes the Design, Advertising, Illustration, Photography and Interactive annuals.
Computer Arts is a kick-butt mag filled with tons of great advice for freelance designers of all levels and ages.

This is honestly a great post!
I have been looking for sometime to find a decent graphic design magazine. Computer Art is okay, but it certainly doesn’t wow me as much as it used to. I very much like the sound of ‘how design’ and I will certainly be checking them all out.

Nice list. Computer Arts is a great mag. I also like Beautiful/Decay magazine. Try checking that one out. No tutorials or stuff, just really rad art and interviews with amazing designers.

Layers and How are my favorites, and have been a subscriber to those mags for a couple years now.
I must say, I wasn’t impressed with my 2 free issues of I.D.
Another good design publication is Before & After (www.bamagazine.com).
