The problem is some companies use their addresses 2 and 3 times over, e.g. Home address, fake business address, then a genuine one. This makes a farce of the listings and makes it even harder for other businesses to get up their on Google local business. This is especially the case if you are in an overcrowded marketplace like web design, seo etc.

it really is amazing how many people neglect Google’s local business center to help promote their business. It is a pretty quick process that can yield some amazing results in the right market.

@Curtis – This is considered black hat and won’t last long. Google maps/local is now verifying physical street addresses through a number of databases. They will know if its a PO Box or mailbox center, so you need a real physical address. In addition, they are working improving their googlemaps algorithm so people can’t add a listing and show up right away.

Has anyone seen examples of people listing their business multiple times? Does Google consider this black hat? Some small businesses are notorious for having 10 different listings for their business….
Anyone know?
