National Design Week 2012
The National Design Week is an annual event, launched in 2006 in conjunction with the National Design Awards program. It is hosted by the Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum.This year, the event commenced last October 13 and will end on the 21st.
During this remarkable week in the design community, Cooper-Hewitt’s award-winning Education Department is hosting a series of free public programs and events in reference with the vision and works of the honorees of the National Design Awards.
They also recently launched a new interactive online resource for the National Design Week to help promote design events hosted by organizations and institutions across the country. Some notable events his year all over US are design events in Portland, Ore., Denver, and Santa Fe, N.M., as well as New York and many more. The National Design Week will culminated with National Design Awards gala ceremony which happened last October 17.
Images 36: Best of British Illustration Exhibition
Organized annually by the Association of Illustrators (AOI), the Images 36: Best of British Illustration exhibit will be hosted by Somerset House in London from October 3 through 28. The exhibition will feature the winning work of over 50 artists from AOL’s flagship program and competition called “Images”.
The exhibition at the Somerset House’s Terrace Rooms will provide a comprehensive overview of the creative range, different techniques and varied application of illustration today in all its forms represented by the gold, silver and bronze award winners from each of the eight competition categories namely Advertising, Books, Children’s Books, Design, New Media, Editorial, Self-Promotion and New Talent.

The exhibition is a showcase of new talent and established names in the illustration industry such as Rod Hunt, Chris Haughton, Lizzie Mary Cullen, Stephen Collins, Steve May and Olaf Hajek. The book, Images 36: Best of British Illustration 2012 will also be launched as a complementary with the exhibition bringing together the shortlisted 350 artworks and profiles from 240 illustrators, including those featured in the exhibition and an editorial section with a series of specially commissioned essays by cultural commentators.
Also, the Images 36 exhibition begins a national tour continuing into 2013 after the stint at the Somerset House. Places like the Blackpool & Fylde College, Swansea Metropolitan University, Middlesex University and University for the Creative Arts, Maidstone are the venues of the tour confirmed so far.
TYPO London 2012
Taking place at Logan Hall of the Institute of Education on October 19 and 20, the TYPO London this year will revolve around the theme “social”. The series of talks in the conference will provide a creative opportunity to dig deeper and investigate the various ways in which designers can function socially.
TYPO London is an annual international design conference following the successful series initiated by TYPO Berlin, which is Europe’s most successful design conference for sixteen years. About 1,000 visitors and around 70 journalists and bloggers from all around the world attended TYPO London last year.
TYPO London 2012 will feature an amazing line-up of more than 40 international speakers including innovative designers, professors, marketing experts, scientists, artists, journalists and more.
