Minimalist Monday – Less is More

Inspiration February 18, 2013

Minimalism is one of the most diverse design movements from the early years of the 20th century until today. Considered as a design principle more than a visual style, minimalism is achieved by exposing the identity and essence of the subject through removing non-essential elements and features to create a more effective and stronger visual presentation.

Minimalist Monday - Less is More

Less is more. Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s mission statement about minimalist design can be expanded into the idea that whether you are designing a website, a brochure or a movie poster, once you remove some unnecessary elements, the design can still function without them.

Tracing back in history, the term minimalism was often times related to architecture design. But with the development of technology and with the influence of pop culture, the minimalist style can now be applied into various forms of art. From a modern phone, sleek sofa, interactive web interface to the simplest magazine covers, movie posters and business cards, the art of minimalism is almost everywhere.

To further explore the world of minimalism in design, we here at You The Designer will showcase the most creative and inspiring minimalist works in this new segment called “Minimalist Monday” – tackling all the awesomeness in the minimalist world to spice up you boring Mondays. And for our kick starter post, we give you a collection of minimalist print designs for your creative inspiration. Enjoy!
