Awesome Web Design of the Week – Love Carmen Rose

Inspiration January 9, 2014

Another year has passed which means many if not most designers will try to rework on their websites to give it a spanking new look or a new feature. In this edition of Awesome Web Design of the Week we are going to check out this lovely portfolio website slash blog of Love Carmen Rose!

One way to get more exposure as well as clients is to have a website where one can post their latest work and archive it for the world to see. Not only that but many creative professions find that talking about their creative processes, inspirations as well as the mundane things in a blog helps them garner more followers thus more exposure. That is why in this edition of Awesome Web Design of the Week we are going to feature the website of Carmen Evans a Texas based photographer and stylist.

As if stepping inside a photo studio, Carmen’s website welcomes the visitors with a photograph of her studio. With links scattered around the photograph, the image somewhat acts as the navigation bar.

From there users can either scroll down or hit the links within the image. Scrolling down will make the side navigation bar slide in from the left. At the same pages users can view the latest blog post and quickly skim over the photographs by scrolling or dragging from left to right. After that is an image preview and a link to the various galleries of Carmen such as lifestyle portraits, senior portraits, family portraits and styled shoots. Despite the simplistic aesthetic approach of the website it sure enforces the feeling of walking through a big white hall laid with gorgeous photographs of people.

The fluid scroll was done by using a jquery scroll code. Users can also use the scroll button of their mouse but is tad slower compared to swiping through the images. Apart from the fluid swiping the website’s responsiveness makes it perfect for a number of devices making it accessible to a lot of people specially with prospective clients.

Are you guys planning on updating the design of your portfolio websites? What are you planning to change? Do tell us! Don’t forget to also share what do you guys think of Carmen’s lovely portfolio site at the comment section down below!
