You! Be Informed! #0039: The Art of Scent 1889 – 2012News February 15, 2013
Hello Creatives! The creative week is once again about to end and it’s time again for us to refresh our minds with the latest industry news to keep us informed and up to date, ready to face next week’s challenges. And this week, we’ll be talking about a one of a kind exhibit that even people outside the design industry would be very interested in.
The Art of Scent 1889 – 2012 is the first major museum exhibition to recognize scent as a major medium or artistry and creativity. The exhibition is currently available for viewing at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York and will end on March 3, 2013.
The exhibition focuses on 12 works made from 1889 to 2012 which were selected by curator Chandler Burr in order to showcase the evolution of perfume as an innovative medium for artists. Moreover, the exhibition is meant to show major improvements in the evolution and design of fragrance specifically the introduction of synthetic raw materials in the production of perfume.
A special installation designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro houses the 12 scents and allows visitors to experience the 12 scents and help inform them on how the distinct combination of artistry and raw materials play a part in the creation of each scent.
The exhibition will last for a few weeks more and was made possible by the Estée Lauder companies – a Founding Major Donor – and other major brands such as Chanel, Hermès Parfums, L’Oréal and P&G to name a few. For more information about this event, you can visit their website using this link.
